Drink of the Month

Drink of the Month: Black(Berry) Widow

Spooky season is finally upon us! We are kicking off October the only way we know how, with a cocktail. This month we are leaving the pumpkins at the patch and diving into a different kind of drink for October…Black(Berry) Widow.

This drink is perfect if your wanting to impress those friends when hosting a Halloween party. Or you just want to have a fancy scary movie night with the girls, with liquid courage for those edge of your seat moments.

Our Black(Berry) Widow contains one of our favorite spirits (no, not Casper)…Vodka. With a make ahead blackberry compote. If you want to skip making the compote, you can easily just subsitute that with black berry juice and just garnish with some muddled blackberries to enhance the blackberry flavor.

Black(Berry) Widow

Cocktail:

6 oz. blackberry compote

1 oz. simple syrup

2 oz. Tito’s vodka (or your preferred brand)

ice

Blackberry Compote:

2 quarts blackberries (or 32 oz. frozen blackberries)

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup lemon juice

1/4 cup water

Simple Syrup:

1 cup water

1 cup granulated sugar

To make cocktail:

Combine all the ingredients in a shaker (excluding ice), and shake to mix. In a rocks glass, add ice and pour cocktail over ice. Garnish with more blackberries if desired and serve immediately.

Note: If you do not want muddled blackberries in your drink from the compote, you can use just the juice.

To make blackberry compote:

Place rinsed blackberries in a saucepan with sugar, lemon juice, and water over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce to let simmer for 5-10 minutes or until all the blackberries are softened.

Remove from heat and mash the blackberries (you can use fork, potato masher, or pulse in blender when mixture is cooled). Pour into a bowl or jar. Store in the refrigerator, in an air-tight container, for up to 5 days. Can be frozen for later use.

Cheers!
