4th of July Events

Baby you’re a FIREWORK! We have compiled a list of events in the area to take the guess work out of how you are going to celebrate your independence.

Wednesday, July 3rd

Tonight we have the Light Up the Landing Firework and Laser Show. This event has been going on for years and is super popular to the area.  It does get packed and getting out of the parking lot after the fireworks can be a drag, so plan to chill a little afterwards. The event starts at 6pm. General parking is $3 per person and VIP parking is $10 a car. They will have bounce houses for the little ones, several food vendors, beer garden with a mix drink station, Chain Reaction, with the fireworks starting at dusk with a laser light show.

Casey, Illinois is bringing us a two day event and while you are there, don’t forget to check out all the Big Things in a Small Town.

If you are local to the Indy area or want to take a day trip, check out the Star-Spangled Symphony at Connor Prairie.  This event takes place July 3rd-July 5th. There will be fireworks accompanied by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.  This is an awesome family-friendly event. The show kicks off at 6pm.

The Franklin Firecracker Festival takes place this evening in Franklin, Indiana at 5pm. Come to downtown Franklin for food vendors, entertainment, the”Fastest Kid in Town Race”and much more! Fireworks will be at approximately 10:10 p.m. Schedule includes Franklin Community Band 6 to 7 p.m.; bounce houses and train rides 6 to 9 p.m.; food vendors and beer garden 6 to 10 p.m.; Fastest Kid in Town at 7 p.m. (register at parks tent by stage from 6 to 6:45 p.m.); Blue River Band 7 to 10 p.m.; and fireworks 10:10 p.m.”

The Poplar Pub of Terre Haute is having their 4th of July celebration all weekend! Enjoy drink specials including $4 Watermelon Long Islands, $4 Frozen Strawberry Daiquiris, and $4 22oz domestics. There is also a special 4th of July menu featuring new items. They are also offering free cover charge to current military and veterans.

Thursday, July 4th

“The Mile” takes place on July 4th every year. The race starts 1 mile north of the of the Stadium, on Brown Blvd and finishes by the Stadium grounds.

The race consist of 6 heats with the first starting at 8:15 and includes a Middle School competition. Proceeds from the event fund the “Lace it Up” Kids Running Program of the Wabash Valley Road Runners.

The Race is the RCAA Regional Championship for a Mile (13 States).

Middle School Teams will be divided male and female, schools may enter as many runners as they like but only one team. Scoring will be top 4 of each team with winning team award of $250.00 to winner and $100.00 for second place. All team runners must pre-register as a team and have a coach present on race day.

Heat # 6 – “The Mile” is the culmination of the Kids Running Program and entry is included by participation in the program. “The Mile” is one of our most family friendly events. The heats are scheduled to enable parents to return to the start to accompany young children and cheer on the older ones.

There will be a special award for the most Patriotic Costume.

Come join us for the 66th annual Frontier Day Parade down Wabash Avenue in downtown Terre Haute. Find more info online at www.wvha.info under “Parade” tab in left menu. Join us at the Vigo Co. Fairgrounds starting at Noon for the Grand Parade Awards Ceremony, fun & games for the kids (some not requiring horses!) then stay for the Open Horse Show.

Since the Fourth of July falls on a Thursday this year, JAM will host a morning class rather than cancelling all-together!
No normal evening class, but join us at 9am for a workout that will keep your energy soaring with the fireworks! The class takes place at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center.

*This is STILL a free for VCSC insured class as it falls on a Thursday!

12,000 yellow rubber ducks will be released into the Wabash River for a race to the finish line. The Wabash Valley Rubber Duck Regatta will take place this Thursday at Fairbanks Park. One lucky person will receive $10,000 and a chance to win $1 million! Ducks can be purchased at 1801 Poplar St. or at various adoption events across the community. Fairbanks Park will be hosting a firework display on the 4th of July. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. The show kicks off at dusk.

CarmelFest is Central Indiana’s favorite festival for celebrating Independence Day! Come with your family and friends on Wednesday, July 3 and Thursday, July 4, 2019 to enjoy delicious food, live entertainment, fun activity zones, and spectacular fireworks. It’s a heartland tradition in the heart of Carmel, Indiana you won’t want to miss!

This all-volunteer led event is organized by the Rotary Club of Carmel. We are working hard to make CarmelFest 2019 a fun and memorable experience for everyone as we commemorate our country’s birth and celebrate freedom.

Festival attendance is free! Tickets are available for the ExtremeKidsZone.

The Linton Freedom Festival runs from June 29-July 6 and includes a carnival, marketplace, live music, and more. Fireworks begin at 10:30 on Monday, July 4.
