Summer is upon us and that means more time spent outdoors. This weekend we’ve got a bourbon + bacon crawl, a luau, and tons of fundraising events to support. Check them all out below!

Friday, June 18th

Don Morris played almost every third Friday of the month at the Dawgleg for the last 20 years. He was a beloved friend to our owners and staff and will be greatly missed. Idle Creek will honor Don and his wife, Cheryl, on June 18th at 7:30pm, the night he was next scheduled to play. Listen to Don’s music with us and reminisce together on a life well lived. Donations in their honor can be made that night to National MS Society, Catholic Charities, and the ASPCA. Dinner and drink specials TBA. Cheers to Don and Cheryl!

The Pride Center of Terre Haute and Launch Terre Haute are teaming together to speak about LGBTQ+ Entrepreneurship and creative problem solving.

The Quick Quack has something for the whole family!
Dress in your best duck attire and bring your ducklings along – awards will be given for the best-dressed child and adult racer! The beautiful trails of Hawthorn Park will serve as the backdrop for all races. The 15k can be run as an individual or as a team of three for a fun way to challenge friends.
Registration includes a Quick Quack shirt, custom race bib, disposable timing chip and the feeling of knowing that you are helping to create hope in our community.
Everyone’s favorite Island party is back! WaterTower’s 4th Annual Luau is back this June 19th! Featuring Music by Kenny Kipp, Specialty Drinks, And more to come!

In 𝘕𝘰 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘞𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦, Soskin shares her life experiences as a Black woman in the United States: her time working in a World War II segregated union hall; her roles as mother, activist, singer, and legislative representative; and her current position as a ranger at the Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park. 𝘕𝘰 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘞𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦 is presented in partnership with the Vigo County Parks & Recreation Department to celebrate and commemorate Juneteenth. Learn more at notimetowastefilm.com. The Children’s Concert is Back!! The Terre Haute Community Band is eager to welcome children of all ages to Fairbanks Park on Saturday, June 19 for “Disney On Parade”. The Vigo County Public Library will be there to provide a free book for each child. Fundazzzlers will be on hand with Balloons and Face Painting artists. The THCB will also have gifts to distribute. Everyone in the audience can enjoy the free popcorn and water. Pre-Concert activities will begin at 6:00 p.m. and continue until the concert begins at 8:00.p.m. There will be a Children’s parade during the concert and Disney costumes or accessories are welcome.

Join us for “Summer in the Village” as our cabin caretakers open up their cabins for all to explore and demonstrate early 19th century skills and crafts.
We are always looking for new volunteers to join us in Pioneer Village! Summer in the Village is a great opportunity to talk with current volunteers and check out the different skills and activities you might like to learn and join in on.

Dad’s Day! The day when Dad’s everywhere think, “sure wish my kid would buy me a big, bourbon stout and some dang stuffed french toast!” Don’t buy Dad a tie this year; bring him to Big Thorn for some tacos, french toast, beermosas, and the release of our Dad’s Bourbon Stout!
 
Dad’s Bourbon Stout
(Oak-Aged Stout)
ABV 10%
A big, malty homage to Dad’s everywhere. Aged on bourbon-soaked, freshly charred oak logs from our woods, this beer has a velvety mouthfeel and a round, toasted body. Notes of bourbon, chocolate, coffee, and roasted wood. Bottle-conditioned in our earth-bermed cellar for excellent aging capabilities.
 
We’ll be serving our already famous beermosas, as well as releasing bottles of Dad’s Bourbon Stout (limited amount available on draft). Look for menus coming soon on the event page. No reservations necessary, and extended hours will be (brunch served all day!):

Join the VCPRD Sunday, June 20th at Fowler Park from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. where our Rec Coordinator and Natural Resource Programmer will be giving hour-long informational kayak tours of Ruble Lake! Tours will include a brief introduction to the recreational benefits of kayaking and the ecology and biology of the lake. Afterward, participants will have the opportunity to paddle around the lake by themselves while being supervised by the staff!
NOTE: There is a $10 registration fee per person for this event. Life jackets (provided by the VCPRD) are to be worn properly at ALL times when on the water. No exceptions. The VCPRD has 6 kayaks with seats for 7 individuals. Children ages 13 and under must be supervised by an adult at all times. Children under the age of 3 may ride sitting on a parent’s lap.
