What to do this Weekend

What To Do This Weekend 5.11-5.13

A mother is the person you can always call to see how long chicken lasts in the fridge.  So this weekend it’s all about MOM’S. This weekend we’ve put together a list of some fantastic events where you & mom can spend some quality time together.  Leash out your frustrations at an axe throwing contest in Bloomington, enjoy wine at one of the many wine festivals and fundraisers happening today & tomorrow, or just enjoy a great meal with her on Sunday at one of the restaurants hosting Mother’s Day specials. We want to wish all our mother’s out there a wonderful weekend and let you know how appreciated you all are.  Keep kicking ass and taking names, we love you for it!

May in Indy is for racing! Bikeparty will be embracing our Indy culture for the May Bikeparty Ride: A Night at the Races. Get into some racing attire, and get that bike (and those legs) in tune for some speed! No, this bikeparty will not be any faster than our usual 8-10 mph or whatever it is. But, we will stop at a couple places where you could exceed those speeds if you choose! Or cheer on your friends as you sip some natty light while sporting jorts and a cutoff T-shirt.

Route and details coming soon! But for now, save the date and invite your friends!

New to bikeparty? We ride a different route (usually with a theme) the second Friday of every month. We meet at the East Plaza of Indianapolis City Market around 7pm and rollout by 7:30 pm. Rides are usually 8-12 miles in length at a pace of about 10 mph or something super slow. This is a social ride! We obey traffic laws. Lights and party attitude (but responsible riding) required; helmets and costumes strongly encouraged. Ride at your own risk; you are responsible for yourself yo! This Summer Concert Series features some of the region’s finest acoustic talent performing originals and covers on The Patio of The Duck, part of the Inn at DePauw.  Acoustic Sunsets on the Vine Street Patio will include a performance this Friday by Brandon Tinkler starting at 6pm in Greencastle, Indiana.

Over the course of several releases: 2009’s ‘The Great Affairs’, 2010’s ‘Ricky took the wheels..’, 2011’s ‘Happy Ender’, and 2013’s ‘4’, The Great Affairs have undergone a not-so-subtle transformation from the dusty, Americana-leaning fare of their early works to the grittier, pop-infused rock n’ roll stylings of their latest, ‘Dream In Stereo’.

While they may have cut their teeth on KISS and The Black Crowes, or Queen and Humble Pie, The Great Affairs simultaneously draw from the Pop well of such ‘80s icons as Rick Springfield and Bon Jovi, juxtaposing these elements with the sound of more contemporary acts like The Gaslight Anthem, Butch Walker, and
The Stereophonics, to offer up the kind of sweaty, gimmick-free, big guitar anthems that’ll rattle your brain, just as easily as they might slip into lonesome troubadour mode and soothe your soul.

THE GREAT AFFAIRS are:
Denny Smith: vocals, guitars, harmonica
Patrick Miller: lead guitar, vocals
Matt Andersen: bass, vocals
Kenny Wright: vocals, drums, percussionMay is NICOLAS CAGE month at Books & Brew!!! Come by and check out their first installment – National Treasure from 10:30pm-12:30am.

About the movie:
Historian and code-breaker Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) has been searching his whole life for a rumored treasure dating back to the creation of the United States. Joining an expedition led by fellow treasure hunter Ian Howe (Sean Bean), Gates finds an ice-locked Colonial ship in the Arctic Circle that contains a clue linking the treasure to the Declaration of Independence. But when Howe betrays him, Gates has to race to get to the document ahead of his so-called colleague.
