Galentine’s Day in the Haute

Galentine’s Day is probably not going to pop up as an official holiday on your calendar. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth celebrating!  Created by fictional character Leslie Knope of Parks and Recreation, Galentine’s Day is a whole day dedicated to smothering your female friends with even more love than you usually do. There is no wrong way to celebrate, but we’ve put a list together of some fun ways you can get your gal pals together and cheers to “ladies celebrating ladies.”You could pay tribute to Leslie Knope by hosting a waffle brunch or a breakfast/brunch, in general. Terre Haute has a few local spots for a great fluffy waffle! Our favorites are Bar Bosco on Saturdays for their Bake Day or Little Bear Coffee Co. on Sundays for Brunch, the Meadows Cafe is a great meeting spot for a sweet stack of pancakes (try the pecan), or grab some donuts from Square Donuts or Wheelhouse Donuts for a quick treat and hang with the girls!

Another great idea for spreading the love with your lady friends is a spa day! Whether you want to spend some time chatting at a mani/pedi bar, getting couples massages, or some fabulous blowouts, we’ve got you covered.  Grab your bestie and spend a day at Alchemy Spa. With the “Just the Two of Us” package, you receive a 60 minute facial, a 60 minute bamboo-fusion massage, and their apothecary pedicure. Want to get made up with some fabulous new lashes?! This is one of my favorite services to indulge on and why not do it with your girlfriends? Adorned by Angelia offers makeup and lash services and she’s located downtown.

Go out for some cocktails and celebrate how great it is to be in a room without men for a few hours.  Bar Bosco is the perfect new spot in town for an intimate girls night with fantastic cocktails. We also highly recommend J. Fords for their hand-crafted drinks and if you go on a Friday, try their bourbon & bacon tastings. If you’d rather enjoy some wine, check out Sycamore Winery or WaterTower Estates, both are opening taprooms downtown in the next few months.

Galentine’s Day is a celebration of friendship and the people who stick by your side as romantic relationships come and go. Like the holiday it precedes, it’s a day dedicated to showing the most important people in your life how much you care about them. It’s corny. It’s cheesy. And that’s what makes it great.

Have a Happy Galentine’s Day!
