Are you looking for something different to try this holiday season? If the answer is yes, you’ve clicked on the right page! A friend of mine recently posted pictures on Instagram of some kind of festival she was attending and I was super curious as to where she was. I had no clue she was only an hour away at the Chinese Lantern Festival begins held at the State Fairgrounds in Indy! I was completely unaware we even had such a festival. I thought for sure this must be only a weekend long event, but to my surprise (yet, again!) it runs through January 7th.
Indiana Chinese Lantern Festival boasts 33 beautiful lantern displays including a 200-feet-long illuminated dragon and 30-foot-high Chinese arch. The lanterns are created by hand using silk fabric, steel frames, and tens of thousands of LED lights. The festival is outdoors— so make sure to bundle up, but there is a heated tent in case you need a little warming up.
In addition to the beautiful lanterns, there are also live performances on the stage outside at Celebration Park. Some traditional Chinese acts featured include a combination of traditional Chinese acrobats and folk dancers.
I’m addition to all the fun to be had above, you can also check out some yummy treats and traditional Chinese crafts! This is the perfect event for a date night or just a group of friends! With the abundance of lights this time of year, it’s refreshing to see something new and learn of a different culture at the same time. Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on this festival!?
