It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s hard to believe that it is actually December and that 2020 is almost behind us. For this weekends activities, we will focus on socially distant & virtual events that we feel are safe to attend with the rise in cases.

Friday, December 4th

Downtown Businesses will participate in the Miracle on 7th Holiday Window Decorating Contest. Take a safe stroll through downtown Terre Haute and enjoy these displays from December 4th on.

Candy Canes on Main is an annual Christmas event that promotes shopping local during the holiday season in downtown Casey, Illinois. This event is always held on the first full weekend in December. The 6th annual Candy Canes on Main will take place on Friday, December 4th & Saturday, December 5th, 2020.
Candy Canes on Main is a FREE family-friendly event that is fun for all ages!
 
This years activities include:
Friday, December 4th (6-9 PM)—
4-9 PM- Food Trucks OPEN
5-9 PM- Chili & Cinnamon Roll Supper (free will donation, Moriah Outreach Building)
6:30 PM- Lighted Christmas Parade (Santa arrives!)
6-9 PM- Starlit Shopping at the downtown participating businesses (specials, sales, samples, & promos)
7 PM- “Up On The Rooftop” Bedtime Story with Santa (Twas the Night Before Christmas is read by Santa from the balcony of the new Terra Cottage location at 4 W Main)

This dazzling display of Christmas lights is synchronized to traditional and newer, rocking music, played through your car stereo. Come see shooting stars, floating snowflakes, dancing candy canes and lollipops, giant Christmas trees, and (a crowd favorite) enchanting tunnels of lights!

Enjoy a tree lighting ceremony from the comforts of your home! Join the Avon Community online about 6:45 for the lead up to the lighting of the tree at 7:00pm. This will take place on Facebook Live.

Surround yourself with the beauty of the holiday season during Christmas at the Zoo the holiday tradition runs Nov. 21 through Dec. 30, closed only on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Day.
 
Timed-entry tickets are required for all members and guests. We are following the city and state guidelines for limiting capacity, and we do anticipate selling out on certain days, especially as Christmas draws closer.

The Zoo opens daily at noon and the festivities begin at 5pm. Come early to visit many of our more robust animals, including sea lions, tigers, red panda, brown bears and many others. Then watch as the Zoo transforms at dusk and enjoy the magical nighttime experience as you stroll through the Zoo covered in the twinkling glow of holiday LED lights presented by
Ascension St. Vincent. Plus stay late with extended hours until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays or 9pm other nights.
Under our Bicentennial Pavilion, Santa’s Village is our newest addition. Encounter wintertime animals, see Santa’s sleigh and reindeer, snap photos with your family and stroll through the breath-taking Tunnel of Lights.
Santa’s Village is among our most popular areas, so we’ll be monitoring attendance in this area and in all our indoor buildings throughout the Zoo to ensure guests have space for social distancing. Additionally, all guests age 3 and up must wear a mask in all indoor areas, including restrooms, and outdoors in areas where social distancing is not possible.

Celebrate the start of the holiday season by taking a stroll through our Westfield Winter Walk at Asa Bales Park on Friday, December 4th and Saturday, December 5th from 6-8pm. Start your walk with a free cup of hot cocoa and enjoy the scenic walk filled with holiday lights and personalized luminaries from our community. You can purchase your very own luminary for just $5!

Miracle on 7th Drive Thru Food Drive on December 4th & 5th. Volunteers will be on hand to unload non perishable food donations. They will also accept monetary donations.

Christmas in the Park  5K/3K Reindeer Romp benefits Clothe a Child, with 50% of the proceeds donated to the organization.
This race includes a 5K run/walk option for adults and youth; a 3K run/walk option for youth who are 8th grade and under; and 1/2 mile Reindeer Romp for youth who are 8 years old and under. The Reindeer Romp will start at 2:45 p.m. with the 5K and 3K starting after that.

Join Robe Ann Park in Greencastle for the inaugural Light Festival and shop at the Winter Market, sponsored by the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce.

Looking for an outdoor family activity? Book a White Violet Centers private tour of their farm and meet their friendly, fuzzy alpacas. This 45-minute experiences will give you a great overview of how our little farm operates. Much of the tour will feature time with our alpaca herd as Farmer Tara, your tour leader, introduces you to these amazing animals.
$10 per person. Children 3 & under are free. Tours are limited to groups of no more than 10 people. Groups should consist of people in your immediate circle. Masks are required. Dress warmly.

Take a trip to the tropics this holiday season as the Garfield Park Conservatory displays holiday poinsettias and lights throughout the colorful collection of tropical flora.
