A Look At: Switchyard Brewing Company

“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”  So, with those words by Eleanor Roosevelt in mind, I truly try to live life nowadays by adventuring.  By finding new places, experiencing new foods, and meeting new people that might enrich my life along the day.  And though we try to be bold with our adventures, the honest truth, is most of us are working 75% of the time and find 2 little weekend days to try and squeeze the most out of life, as close to home as possible.  So, this past Sunday I found myself not venturing far from home.  But far enough away to feel like I was enjoying the day somewhere new, and that is when I found myself in Switchyard Brewing Company.

I always love walking into some place that I know is going to be special.  That gives off a come relax, unburden yourself for a moment, and take the time to just stop…and enjoy.  And that’s exactly what I found when I came into Switchyard.  New to Bloomington just a few short months ago, this mammoth of a taproom is wide open and full of light.  There are variety of seating options throughout the room, from high-tops for 4 to large communal tables to bar tops seats for those who want a place at the window to people watch or take in the Sunday game.

It’s welcoming to all and has the hours…and water bowls to prove it.  Opening its doors at the crack of 8 o’clock, this taproom has more to offer than just a delicious line up of beers.  From their own blend of Hopscotch Coffee to tea and fresh kombucha from local area business, Switchyard is the perfect place for students, entrepreneurs, or maybe even your friendly neighborhood blogger to settle in and boss hard.  But this isn’t an all work and no play kind of place.  They’ve got a calendar full of events to keep your nights and weekends stacked.  With live music and trivia this is the place to grab your friends and head to for a night out for fun!

Now, I’ve done all this talking and I haven’t even touched the beer yet.  New brewery…that means LOTS of new beers to try out and Switchyard has been perfecting their brew since 2014.  With a culture that works to promote creative and positive change within their community by providing a welcoming taproom and quality, hand-crafted beers made with the best ingredients, we absolutely had to try to sample as many of their brews as possible.  We ordered a couple flights and enjoyed the delights of people watching and games.  Some of my very favorites were their Lavender Blonde and Red Session, however, I absolutely fell in love with the Blackberry Wheat!

Their beer list has something for everyone, but if (gasp!) you’re not a beer fan.  Don’t you worry, they have ciders, wine, and even CRAFT SODAS.  We’ve talked ideals, locations, and beer…but we can’t forget food.  Switchyard Brewing Company has partnered with The Big Cheeze to offer their patrons delicious food just right outside their front door, every day from 11am-11pm.  You can find fresh pastries inside if you’re starting your day of right (and early).

So, if you have a little adventurer in your heart and you are looking for a location to come up with your next amazing idea or just want to have a great time with some of your favorite people will drinking tasty locally crafted beer.  Then I highly suggest you strap on your travel shoes and head over to Switchyard Brewing Company in Bloomington, IN.

Cheers!
